Welcome! I am a PhD candidate in political science at the Ohio State University. I study social influence in political institutions, using causal inference, network analysis, and natural language processing. My work measures shared issue attention — how similarly legislators talk about the same issues — in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1873 to 2010, and finds that this attention alignment drives bipartisan voting coordination precisely under party pressure. To explore how members' shared issue attention is constructed, it then develops a causal framework for speech diffusion, showing that a member's issue attention spreads across party lines as much as within them — challenging echo-chamber and agenda-control accounts. My co-authored field experiment on deliberative town halls demonstrates that members of Congress can persuade the public through policy expertise rather than blind deference to elites.
