Jungbae An

Welcome! I am a PhD candidate in political science at the Ohio State University. I study social influence in political institutions, using network analysis, causal inference, and natural language processing. My dissertation develops a causal framework for speech diffusion in the U.S. House, showing from 138 years of floor speeches that members' shared issue attention spreads across party lines as much as within them — challenging echo-chamber and agenda-control accounts. It further shows that this attention alignment drives bipartisan voting coordination precisely under party pressure, and my co-authored field experiment on deliberative town halls demonstrates that members of Congress can persuade the public through policy expertise rather than blind deference to elites. I am on the market for positions in American politics, political methodology, and computational social science.
